Sara Nelson is the owner of Barbell Kitchen. With 7 years of coaching experience, she teaches the simplicity behind the science of nutrition through recipes, health articles, and a private coaching practice. She lives in San Marcos with her two kids and trains at a local CrossFit gym. She uses science-based research to help her children, fellow gym-members, and global community implement strategies towards improved health. When she’s not coaching or lifting, you can catch her in the kitchen baking.
She holds a credential as a certified Precision Nutrition Level 1 Coach (Nutritionist) along with certifications as a USAW Sports Performance Coach and CrossFit Level 2 Trainer. She holds additional certifications in Mindfulness, Life Coaching, and Mobility and is actively pursing a credential in Meditation. She works with clients in large group classes, seminars, and individual training programs to achieve their goals (physically and spiritually), no matter their age or ability.

Carlynn Whitton (soon-to-be Jones) is our nutritionist in training. She comes with 2 years of coaching experience and a passion for knowledge. She lives in Cardiff with her fiancé and chocolate lab and trains out of her coastal-view outdoor home gym. She uses science-based research to help her family, friends, and fitness community implement strategies towards improved health. When she’s not coaching or working out, you can catch her playing with Captain, her lab. She holds certifications in exercise movement as a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and is actively pursing a certification in Nutrition.
